Vid: Father on hand as Serena faces Osaka

MIAMI, Fla. – Richard Williams, the father of Serena and Venus, was on hand Wednesday as his youngest daughter prepared for a tough first-round opener against Indian Wells champion Naomi Osaka at the Miami Open.

Now 76, Williams looked well, if a little frail.

There have been reports he was seriously ill, had suffered a stroke during Wimbledon in 2016.

Although given that information came from estranged wife Lakeisha, with whom he is enjoying a rather contentious divorce, take it for what it’s worth.

Williams and Lakeisha Williams’s divorce is scheduled for a jury trial in September or October, with the date to be set in mid-August.
