The comeback of 27-year-old Canadian Rebecca Marino continues to be a feel-good story.
Marino, who returned from a five-year retirement and started from zero seven months ago, won the $25,000 ITF in Lubbock, Texas last weekend without dropping a set.
That follows a quarterfinal effort in Quebec City, at her first WTA Tour-level event since the break.
The result won’t show in the rankings for another week. But Marino should be inside the top 190 next Monday. She should be the No. 2 Canadian behind Eugenie Bouchard.
Marino is playing a $60,000 ITF in Templeton, California this week.
