Madrid Open owner Ion Tiriac is so mad at the WTA Tour, three lawsuits have been filed over the last year.
Tuesday, a court of New York ruled two – defamation suits with Ilie Nastase in Romania, and in Cyprus where Tiriac’s company is registered – will be arbitrated in New York in line with the WTA’s tournament agreement.
A third lawsuit filed in Spain seeking to overturn the equal prize money requirement goes on.
It all began when WTA CEO Steve Simon criticized Tiriac for having Nastase, then banned, at the women’s trophy ceremony in 2017.
