She’s 31 now, more than five years removed from her last Grand Slam main draw at the 2013 French Open. And she’s eight years beyond a career high ranking of No. 15.
But France’s Aravane Rezai returned this week, a wild card into the qualifying at the Kyotec Open, a $25,000 ITF tournament in Luxembourg.
She won an easy first round, then lost a third-set tiebreak to the No. 1 seed, Tayisiya Morderger of Germany, a 21-year-old ranked No. 500.
Rezai’s been talking comeback for years, but has only managed a handful of events per year since she last played regularly in 2013.
