In a fascinating interview ahead of next week’s ATP Tour Finals, Ellie Austin of the Sunday Times qualified Roger Federer’s typical replies as “expansive, considered answer(s) that avoid coming down on one side or the other.”
Re Serena Williams at the US Open, Federer sort of took a side.
“It’s a mélange of all things, but at some point, I feel like Serena should have walked away. She did, but she went too far. She should have walked earlier,” he said.
“It’s a little bit excusable. The umpire maybe should not have pushed her there.”
