Pics: Bouchard preps for the French

PARIS JEAN BOUIN – Genie Bouchard hasn’t played since Miami in mid-March.

But she’s in Paris, at the French Open, with a couple of fabulous women in her corner.

There’s Fed Cup captain Heidi el Tabakh, who is helping her out after she divested herself of her team last month.

And there’s her grandmother, Huguette Martin, who has become a bit of a social media star.

Madame Martin has posed with the likes of Venus Williams and Sloane Stephens this week.

Seriously, how much fun is Granny having?

Bouchard practiced with Russian-born American Anna Tatishvili Monday morning, at the auxiliary courts just down the road from the main site.

Bouchard plays Lesia Tsurenko Tuesday, last on the Bullring (also now known as “old” Court 1).

Dramatic head-to-head

The two have produced a lot of drama, and some good tennis, when they’ve met previously.

The first one was all the way back in 2015, in the round of 16 at Indian Wells.

Bouchard had an ab issue and Tsurenko had an ankle issue and at one point, it felt like neither of them would finish.

Tsurenko won it 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-4

Their second meeting came a year ago, as Bouchard returned to Fed Cup and Canada met Ukraine in Montreal in April.

The 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (5) win by Bouchard was a gutsy one, as the Canadian showed a lot of fight and heart. And if felt like it might be a flash point as she looked to turn her career frowns upside down.

It didn’t work out that way; Bouchard didn’t win her next main draw match until July, when she beat British player Gabriella Taylor in the first round of Wimbledon.

But it doesn’t take away from how good that match in Montreal was.

Hopefully the two will deliver the drama Tuesday as well.
