Another flashback to 12 years ago, when there were a number of Canadians in the junior event including Rebecca Marino, Vasek Pospisil and Milos Raonic.
It didn’t seem like a slam-dunk at the time, but all of them got into the top 40, and beyond in their pro careers.
Pospisil (just turned 18) and Raonic (18 that December) teamed up for the second junior major of the season, after the French Open.
They got past Marcelo Arévalo of El Salvador and Takanyi Garanganga of Zimbabwe, 6-7 (2), 7-5, 6-4 in the first round.

Here, they went down to Mirza Bašić of Bosnia and Wu Di of China, 7-5, 6-7 (3) 63 in the second round.
Here’s what it looked like.
Other junior moments

Among the other names you might recognize in the 2008 boys’ doubles draw, which was pretty high quality:
*David Goffin (with countryman Alexandre Folie of Belgium): the No. 5 seeds reached the semifinals, losing to Matt Reid and Bernard Tomic of Australia.
*Dan Evans (with Dan Smethurst): beat countrymen Marcus Willis and Neil Pauffley in the first round, lost to Reid/Tomic in the second round.
*Filip Krajinovic (with Marin Draganja): lost 2nd round
*Bernard Tomic (with Matt Reid) reached the final, losing the Hsieh and Yang.
*Jarmere Jenkins (with Chase Buchanan): Serena Williams’ hitting partner and Buchanan, the No. 7 seeds, lost in the first round.

*Cheng-Peng Hsieh (with Yang Tsung-Hua) won the whole thing, beating Reid and Tomic in the final.

*Grigor Dimitrov and Henri Kontinen, seeded No. 6, rolled in their first-round match but gave their opponents a walkover in the second round.
*Ryan Harrison and Bradley Klahn, seeded No. 2, lost in the quarters to Basic and Wu.
