I was writing that in jest about moving back starting times for French Open. But I did hear on the coverage an announcer saying that the tournament is planning have nite sessions. So maybe they were listening to me.
I don’t think that’s quite true.
What they are planning, as far as I know. is to have a “special night session” every night – but I believe it’s only on Court Philippe Chatrier.
It’s a … 9 p.m. start.
If it’s only one match I can’t imagine it will be a women’s match as there’s always the possibility the fans (who I suspect will pay a nice sum for a ticket) would get only an hour of tennis for a women’s match.
Here’s the promo sign they have up on Court Suzanne Lenglen:

They were planning to have split sessions for the quarters this year on Chatrier: Noon (one men’s and one women’s) and then … 5 p.m. (also one of each).
I’m not sure 5 p.m. is realistic when there could be eight sets in the noon session. But it’s more of an “evening into night” type of thing.
Obviously this year, with all that’s going on, they put that off. But the extra months since the original time slot did allow them to put up lights on a lot more courts. They were planning for four lit courts this year; instead, it’s 11 or 12.
Yes, Thanks for refreshing my memory on WTA TV. I think ESPN does the other Slams and offers recordings of all matches.
My complaint to TC Plus apparently helped because the last two days they have had doubles up in a timely fashion. So bravo for that. Better yet would be hold the matches later in the day for a decent time for USA telecasts. The Chinese accommodated for the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
LOL – you expect Roland Garros to push back its schedule for a … small American audience?
That’s funny.
Also worth noting that Tennis Channel is actually the full rights holder here; they sub-license some of it to NBC.
The difference between the NBC megabucks paid to the IOC for the Olympic rights and the Tennis Channel rights fee to Roland Garros is not unadjacent to the different between Roger Federer’s bank balance and mine. 🙂
Ever since Americans were forced to switch from WTA TV to Tennis Channel/TC Plus, I have been wary of the consequences. There have been times when some WTA matches, especially doubles, haven’t been shown. But today takes the cake. If you are living on the West Coast like I do, the French Open starts at 2 pm. So I depend on watching early matches that are recorded and available in the On Demand section. Well, today even at 9 pm well past the end of play, none of today’s (Thur) women’s doubles are available. I wonder if they are available on WTA TV?
Grand Slams have never been available on WTATV or Tennis TV.
They are not ATP or WTA events.
FYI: Saw this on a tennis message board.
A coach has tested positive and whoever he was coaching was been kicked out of the doubles tournament.
I believe it’s either Krunic or Marozava.
Yes Bolsova and Eikeri replace Krunic/Marozava
Kasatkina/Kontaveit and Bertens/Kuznetsova also out. Paar and Wachaczyk get to play their slam
Thanks, I’m aware. The tournament announced it last night.
But message boards are a cesspool, FYI.
Cirstea and Sorribes Tormo also are out.

FYI: Saw interview with Melichar and Schuurs after their semi win. They are only playing together this week because their regular partners chose not to play. They said they will be back together with them (Xu with Melichar; Schuurs with Peschke) for the French. Both teams train together under Peschke’s husband, Torsten.
Thanks. I’m aware 🙂
Melichar and Peschke were a longtime team – got to the Wimbledon final together. So it was a very amicable breakup, lol.
Canadian Dabrowski worked with Torsten as well for quite a while.
Thanks for your reply Steph. Doing a great job at providing news we can get nowhere else (tennis.com nowhere near complete in coverage). I was wondering about those Asians that have been competing. Whether they lived somewhere else, such as Zhang Shaui and Xu Yifan, who made US Open women’s doubs finals but not competing in Europe although her Open partner is (wonder if they split up despite success). Hsieh Su-Wei skipped USA tournament but is in Europe. I read sometime ago she has a boyfriend from France. So that could be the reason. It would be interesting to have a story on Asians and why some came (if indeed it is because they live elsewhere) and what most who didn’t come are doing. (if not for money, you would think they would come to get into form as otherwise that will be a long layoff and we know how difficult that is regain form (Azarenka took a long time; Bellis and Puig haven’t yet).
Hsieh has a VERY cute boyfriend in France, and lives here.
I’ve been efforting to try to write about the very unique challenges the Chinese players, in particular, face on tour for awhile now. It’s very hard to get them to talk about it. It’s …. complicated.
I could give you the short version but I’m hoping to flesh it out.
No, I don’t believe they have split up.
Tennis.com is basically a fan site so they don’t break a lot of news or look into things. Much of their content is rewritten blurbs from people like me, feels like sometimes. They are now pretty tied up with Tennis Channel, so it’s not… hard-hitting stuff.
I see no Chans on doubles seedings for French. Are they like Barty? Nowheresville for 2020. Being a singles and doubles player, Barty has a lot in the bank. Strange Chans passing up the money since doubs players don’t make nearly as much.
Not everything is about money. If you look, the vast majority of the players from China and Taipei have not been playing since the restart. The few who are (IIRC) live elsewhere.
