SBD Preview: Halep, Barty top contenders as the Italian Open gets under way

The list of odds for this week’s Internazionali BNL d’Italia is a bit schizophrenic.

There are former champions in the field: Elina Svitolina (twice), Serena Williams (three times) and Karolina Pliskova (once, plus the final last fall).

But they’re not even close to the top of the list of favorites.

Among those are players who have done basically nothing in Rome during their careers.

But who are currently on fire.
