ATP Tour D.C. – Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021 final results

Two favorites – defending champion Nick Kyrgios and home guy Frances Tiafoe – were ousted in the first round of singles.

But the two paired up for doubles and get the second night match, in the hopes of making their visit to D.C. not a total loss. And they squeaked one out.

But the big event was the debut of Rafael Nadal at the Citi Open.

He’s caused a fair bit of stir already, and gave the crowd their money’s worth in a three-hour win over Jack Sock.

But the foot was clearly giving him trouble. We’ll have to wait to see if he’s one and done.
