One Canadian, Félix Auger-Aliassime, was into the semifinals. He awaited the winner of his bud Denis Shapovalov and Arthur Rinderknech.
And Shapovalov pulled through. And they had a hard-hitting battle, won by the elder.
The other semi was an all-American affair, after unseeded Tommy Paul spoiled Andy Murray’s run in the quarterfinals on Thursday. And again, the elder (and lower-ranked of the two) prevailed.
In Milan, it will be No. 1 vs No. 2 in the Next-Gen Finals Saturday.
