ROLAND GARROS – The temperature the previous day was over 30C, which portended some pretty sticky conditions for the first day of qualifying at this year’s Roland Garros.
But while that’s expected later in the week, Monday was in the low 20s, with a little humidity. But still basically perfect weather conditions.
It looks like the lineup for Tuesday has a few more familiar faces. But there were plenty of fans on hand Monday for the start of the tournament.
A year ago, the tournament was postponed by a week. And the qualifying wasn’t open to the public.
It was a step up from the fall edition in 2020 – which was gloomy on basically every level.
Still, there were masks all over the place last year and for most of the tournament, limited capacity.
So, on the day that the indoor mask mandate fell in Paris, it felt almost like old times around the grounds.
