WASHINGTON, D.C. – When Serena Williams posted up some video from The Weeknd’s concert in Washington, D.C. Saturday night, it felt like something was up.
Because she’s not playing the Citi Open.
And, sure enough, with a 9 a.m. practice time – and a lot of fans already on site – there was Williams with her entire team (including a pretty toasty-looking Chip) on the practice court.
Here’s what it looked like.
Williams is planning to play the Toronto WTA event next week, and Cincinnati after that.
So this is a training week.
Shared coach and handy logistics
And since she and sister Venus – who IS playing the Citi Open and will meet a qualifier on Monday – seem to be sharing a coach in Eric Hechtman these days, it actually kind of makes sense.
Owner Ein and his princess stop in
While on court, Williams got a visit from tournament owner Mark Ein and his little princess, who looked like she came with her Qai Qai doll to show Serena.
Serena’s daughter Olympic and her Qai-Qai doll became a social-media hit a few years ago.
Here are some more pics.
Both sisters have a longstanding relationship with Ein, and played on numerous occasions for his World Team Tennis franchise, the Kastles.
