–
The US Open is done. But tennis never sleeps.
The Canadians (well, some of them – including late addition Félix Auger-Aliassime) head to Valencia, Spain for the preliminary rounds of the Davis Cup Finals.
They meet Korea on Tuesday, and then have to sit around for three days to play Spain and Serbia back to back on Friday and Saturday.
In Chennai, India (a new pop-up event as the third consecutive cancellation of the fall Asian swing kicks in), there are THREE Canadian women.
This is rare.
There’s No. 7 seed Rebecca Marino, Carol Zhao and Genie Bouchard, in a protected ranking.
(Last week’s final results at the bottom of the post).

Saw Adil Shamasdin on the bench for Canada yesterday. Reminded me that I don’t think I’ve seen him in any tournaments this year. Did he retire, & just come back to help out for Davis Cup, or is he returning from injury? Tks.
Annabelle Xu is confirmed being off to Virginia.
It was already confirmed long ago.
If you follow me on Twitter you’ll see that I posted a photo a week ago of her wearing a Virginia T-shirt. But thanks.

Sorry, what “was confirmed long ago” is the fact that she _will_ be playing at Virginia, not that she has already physically left longterm for Virginia, which would have been impossible except for several days (for an interview or some such), as she was at the US Open until the end of last week. When I wrote “she is confirmed being off to Virginia,” I used intentionally the present continuous “being” to specifically mean her current/recent status. I meant “she is confirmed as having just/recently left for Virginia.”
Well .. school is starting/has started, so … perhaps it was the awkward grammar that was confusing.
She hasn’t played a tournament since junior Wimbledon, so there was plenty of time for her to “physically leave long term” in the six-plus weeks prior to the US Open.
She didn’t even play the top-level junior warmup at “home” in Repentigny. So I’m not sure where you think she was.
I see that Stefani is back after her knee injury at the US Open last year. Do you know if her and Dabrowski are returning to a full-time partnership?
Stefani was in New York. I have some pics somewhere.
But no, not for now. It just worked out that Dabrowski was going to Tokyo with Olmos so it added a tournament, and Stefani still had a ranking at the deadline. They weren’t just partners; Stefani is also one of her best friends and she saw her through all the pain and rehab. I wrote a piece for Canadian Press that much be online somewhere talking about that.
Don’t forget that she and Olmos are working towards qualification for the WTA Tour Finals.
It’s nice to see Luisa Stefani back.
Congrats Genie and Rebecca on today’s wins.
Crazy year for her. I saw her in NY.
