GUADALAJARA, Mexico – With Genie Bouchard playing her first match of the tournament, Bianca Andreescu and Rebecca Marino already were onto their second-round encounters on this Tuesday.

Marino played Caroline Garcia (and was two points away from beating her), and Andreescu met Petra Kvitova for the time in her career. And won going away in the third set.

Bouchard’s first-round opponent was qualifier Kayla Day. And she had a few patches where things could have been better. But her opponent faded at the end of both sets and in the end, Bouchard played as well as she needed to, to win her first match at the WTA 1000 level since Dubai in 2019.
