As with the ATP, the WTA Tour hands out year-end awards in various categories.
In the WTA’s case, though, the procedure is a little different.
For these awards, the media decide; they don’t go to the player group for a final decision.
The WTA has decided who is nominated, there is no option to write in a candidate. And we only vote for one player or team.
(I don’t make the rules, folks).
Here we go:
WTA Player of the Year
Caroline Garcia
Coco Gauff
Ons Jabeur
Jessica Pegula
Elena Rybakina
Iga Swiatek
WTA Doubles Team of the Year
Gabriela Dabrowski / Giuliana Olmos
Coco Gauff / Jessica Pegula
Lyudmyla Kichenok / Jelena Ostapenko
Barbora Krejcikova / Katerina Siniakova
Veronika Kudermetova / Elise Mertens
WTA Most Improved Player of the Year
(Player who finished inside the Top 100 and showed significant improvement throughout the season)
Ekaterina Alexandrova
Beatriz Haddad Maia
Veronika Kudermetova
Liudmila Samsonova
Ajla Tomljanovic
WTA Newcomer of the Year
(Player who made Top 100 debut and/or notable accomplishments during the season)
Harriet Dart
Linda Fruhvirtova
Jule Niemeier
Laura Pigossi
Mayar Sherif
Zheng Qinwen
WTA Comeback Player of the Year
(Player whose ranking previously dropped due to injury or personal reasons and current season’s results helped restore ranking)
Tatjana Maria
Daria Saville
Donna Vekic
Serena Williams
Please write in Genie Bouchard for Most Improved category.
I’m sure there is a way to write in our candidate.
Regards
I really don’t think she’s improved by their definition.
