No seeds on the docket for Wednesday, as the 32 seeded players all have first-round byes and won’t be in action until the weekend.

But there are some fairly high-profile names who aren’t seeded but who will draw interest. And one of them is Gaël Monfils, who returned to the competitive match court for the first time since he retired in the second round of the National Bank Open in Montreal last summer.

He got the 6 p.m. night session match.

Which isn’t as big a perk as it might seem as the night crowds the first week are small. And the weather right now is pretty chilly.

It didn’t go particularly well, but at least he broke the ice.
