MIAMI, Fla. – Still just 19, Denmark’s Holger Rune isn’t shy to be forthcoming about what he thinks.
And here, after a victory at the Miami Open, he elucidates on a number of topics.
Among those are a response to a fellow competitor calling him “obsessed with tennis”.
To which he replies, quite rightly, if you want to be great at something, you have to be at least a little bit obsessed.
Tough to argue that!
Enjoy.
Notable, also – after Miami, the six-month loan of coaching guru Patrick Mouratoglou has come to an end.
I had the opportunity to borrow Patrick for a limited period and we have had 6 educational and fun months together. Now it’s time to move on and use the learning on my own. Thank you Patrick for some great months together #friendship #learninganddevelopment pic.twitter.com/q23R4Uxmp8

Holger! We’ve successfully completed our mission and ended up having an incredible 6-month adventure, exceeding our original plan of 3 months. I have no doubt that your is bright. I remain your biggest fan and I keep an eye on you with the @MouratoglouAcad team. @holgerrune2003 pic.twitter.com/NYRg2d1Vmu

It’s hard to parse the language here, and see what it may or may not mean for Simona Halep – who was being coached by Mouratoglou before (just a few days after her announced positive doping test) he bolted for Team Rune.
What we have heard is that the original February hearing for Halep to adjudicate the positive finding was pushed back. Not much news around about that, though.
Mouratoglou’s Twitter bio has changed from “coach of Simona Halep and Holger Rune” back to “coach of Simona Halep”.
