ROME – The seeds in the bottom half entered the scene, including Madrid champion Carlos Alcaraz. No. 3 Daniil Medvedev, No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas and No. 6 Andrey Rublev.

Alcaraz and Rublev got done before the rain scuttled a lot of matches. But Medvedev has yet to begin, and Tsitsipas was in the middle of his match, as was Frances Tiafoe.

So it was a great schedule that sort of drowned.

But Sunday will be even better as a result.
