MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

Roland Garros ’23 – Day 5 men’s singles final results

ROLAND GARROS – It wasn’t a shock, even if it was disappointing as Gaël Monfils came into the press conference room shortly before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night to announce that he’d been diagnosed with a partial tear of a ligament in his left wrist.

And thus, he couldn’t make the date for his scheduled night-session clash with Holger Rune Thursday night.

It meant a reshuffling of the sked, as Alexander Zverev was moved into that slot and other men’s matches moved with the domino effect.

In the end, Sinner’s five-set loss was a shocker, even though his opponent has had an excellent clay-court season. The upsets by Etcheverry and Jarry were a … little less so. Clearly both have emerged and, in Jarry’s case, the long comeback from nowhere is complete.

Remains to be seen how much further he can go.
