After qualifying over the weekend, Canadian Carol Zhao had the misfortune of drawing the No. 1 seed in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Veronika Kudermetova.
After a shock first-round loss in Paris, Kudermetova will be keen to get back on the winning track.
Also, Miyu Kato – whose unfortunate disqualification made a lot of headlines during Roland Garros, signed up on site with partner Aldila Sutjiadi and is getting right back on the horse on grass after winning the mixed doubles title late last week in Paris.
(Birmingham is five hours ahead of EDT; ‘s-Hertogenbosch is six hours ahead)

What (if anything) is the inside story for all the Russians and BRussians winding up in the Netherlands this week. Were they not able to get visas to travel to Nottingham, or is there just the sense that it is less awkward than dealing with the British press. Or is it as simple as this venue being really close to Paris?
Also, do past champions like Venus get an automatic WC into Wimbledon? What if the tournament doesn’t want to give her one. Or would she have some “deal” beforehand with the AELTC before the actual wild cards are awarded?
So … are you actually asking a question, or giving me answers?
Can’t really wade through … all that.
Steph… you are the best !!!
Great reporting from Paris and Rome. Did you have at least one day in Rome that it did not rain? I hope so.
