Bianca Andreescu didn’t have much turnaround time, after making the mixed doubles final at Roland Garros Thursday.

Just a few days, and it’s time for her 2023 grass-court debut. She drew a Turkish qualifier, which wasn’t a bad outcome although it was tighter than it should have been.

And Rebecca Marino also began her grass-court season, in Nottingham against Harriet Dart. That one didn’t go so well.

Also – another one on the comeback trail: Venus Williams is back. Why? Why not? Well … losing to a 17-year-old wild card is probably a thing to consider.

And defending champion Beatriz Haddad Maia found the turnaround from a gruelling Roland Garros semifinal just too quick – and so went out in the first round to a lucky loser in Nottingham
