A 250 event like Umag is putting up some solid star power on the first day: two US Open champions.

First, 2020 champ Dominic Thiem, who continues to try to come back from wrist issues. He got it done.

And then … home guy Marin Cilic (the 2014 champion in New York), who had knee surgery and hasn’t played since withdrawing from his second-round match in Pune, India in January, just before the Australian Open. He didn’t look too bad, but rusty.

Not many seeds in action Monday. But the night-session match between Thanasi Kokkinakis and Gaël Monfils in Atlanta was showtime.
