WASHINGTON, D.C. – Some tough matches already on Wednesday, including Samsonova v Cirstea.

Jennifer Brady, who made a successul return to the WTA level by routining Kalinina, faced a friend – and this week, a doubles partner – in Madison Keys. She didn’t have whaat she had in her first round, and has to get used to the rhythm of putting strings of matches together.

And Elina Svitolina, who played Ukrainian Azarenka in the first round, got Russian Daria Kasatkina in the second round and did what she’s done every previous time – beat her.

At the end of the day, none of the matches were dramatic. It happens.
