SYDNEY, Australia – If it feels as though the United Cup has been going on for weeks now, it really hasn’t.
But Saturday marked semifinal day, as the Polish and Aussie teams that qualified in Perth have had ample time (unlike last year) to travel across a very big country for the final shootout.
The Poles are the favorites, clearly, in the first semifinal that came to be in large part because of the strong women on their squads.
The Australia vs Germany nightcap was the opposite; Alex de Minaur for Australia and Alexander Zverev for Germany have been the linchpins. And in the end, a doubleheader by Zverev and some serious late-night drama earned the Germans a spot in the final
