But Coco Gauff v Alycia Parks looked promising – until it wasn’t.

And unseeded Paula Badosa vs. unseeded Amanda Anisimova was unseeded in vernacular more than actual potential, due to long absences in 2023 from both. Anisimova prevailed, but she (and many tennis fans) also welcomed Badosa back.

They add to the challenges the players at the top of the game did not have in 2023. And that’s a welcome add.
