Two good wins against young Frenchmen probably didn’t prepare Félix Auger-Aliassime for the spectacle that is Alexander Bublik.
Although he could ask his pal Denis Shapovalov, who played him in the second round earlier this week and could have (should have) beaten him.
But the decision to skip Davis Cup and chase the ATP points worked out well for FAA, who has 225 points to defend between Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai coming up this month.
Auger-Aliassime was 2-0 vs. the Kazakh on hard courts, while Bublik took their only meeting on clay. But even though it was long, and close, Auger-Aliassime falls. And Holger Rune retires.
