INDIAN WELLS – The Cana-Kiwi team of Dabrowski and Routliffe, who had to wait a few days to play their first-round match but won routinely, returned Monday to vie for a quarterfinal spot against Asia Muhammad and Ena Shibahara.
They fell just short, in a tight tiebreak.
Beyond that, Gauff and Pegula played for the second straight day and won.
So did No. 7 seeds Haddad Maia and Townsend, a new team who haven’t yet played a lot together so far in 2024.
They also booked a quarterfinal spot.
