With the Sunday start in Paris, this week’s WTA events have Saturday finishes.

And so even with the qualifying wrapping up, the main draws are already beginning.

Noteworthy on the Canadian side was Leylah Fernandez, who had a tough opener in Strasbourg against Anastasia Potapova. She could have gone out in straight sets, and it was nervy. But she managed to prevail.

Meanwhile, her Strasbourg doubles partner this week, Erin Routliffe, ws in the Rome doubles final with Coco Gauff. And they came within a smidge of taking the title, only to lose to the astonishing Italians.
