But hold the phone, Elina Avanesyan – who just changed her nationality from Russian to Armenian – is on the rise and is an excellent player.

Certainly more of a threat these days than Lesia Tsurenko, who took out Andreescu in Toronto last week.

And in the end, Andreescu’s body let her down in the humidity. And Avanesyan – cool and calm on the outside – handled her in two close sets.
