It’s “former women’s champions with wild cards” time on Day 2 at the US Open.
Both Naomi Osaka, a two-time champ and Bianca Andreescu, the 2019 champ, got primo slots on Louis Armstrong Stadium.
As it happens, neither got a cake draw and both first-rounders, with Osaka playing Jelena Ostapenko and Andreescu playing No. 5 seed Jasmine Paolini for the third Grand Slam tournament in a row, could be great matches, too.
In the end, Osaka was the only “champion” survivor as both Andreescu and Emma Raducanu went down in three.
