It’s a day of flashing back to moments in Rafael Nadal’s long and illustrious career, which he announced Thursday will come to an end after the Davis Cup finals next month.
Here he is through the years, Down Under.
Australia was the scene of great triumphs, and also great disappointments.
And it’s notable that when he decided to try to play this year, he headed over early, to Brisbane, to get some matches.
He practiced with a couple of other players who also will be ending their careers in 2024: Andy Murray, and Dominic Thiem.
He drew Thiem in the first round of the main draw as well. And in the end, after losing a tight one in the quarterfinals, he couldn’t answer the bell for the main event.
