The run for No. 15 seed Ugo Humbert continued, as he was into the final at his “home” Masters 1000 in Paris-Bercy.
Annoyed, as the No. 1 French player, that he hadn’t gotten the stadium court earlier in the week, he channelled his ego for good and had quite a run.
But he faced No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev in the final. And that was the end of the road.
Meanwhile, Denis Shapovalov qualified in Belgrade, and will face fellow qualifier Marton Fucsovics in the first round – not your typical Q vs. Q first round, that’s for sure.
In the final round of qualifying in Metz, seven of the eight players were homeboys. Four made it through, with Pierre-Hugues Herbert squeezing in as a lucky loser after the late withdrawal of Holger Rune. Rune, citing a back issue, was eliminated officially from the race to Turin after his lost to Alexander Zverev.
