The run to the year-end semis went more or less on form – with the exception of Carlos Alcaraz, who came in ill and gave it all he had in vain.

The surprise was probably Casper Ruud – although maybe it shouldn’t have been. For whatever reason, the Norwegian typically does well in the year-end finals.

This particular year, though, he’d done little to nothing leading up to it that indicated that trend would continue. But he didn’t put up much of a fight in the semis against Sinner.
