MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

Berrettini signs with IMG

Italian star Matteo Berrettini, who went through a couple of years of injury woes but got back on the winning path in 2024, has a new agent.

The 28-year-old, currently ranked No. 34, began the season ranked No. 125 but took three titles this season, and was a key cog in the Davis Cup title run by the Italians.

But Berrettini has made a move that might well expand his opportunities outside tennis. He has signed with the behemoth, IMG, and also with its fashion division, IMG Models.

As we’ve seen from the photo shoots with clothing sponsor Hugo Boss, Berrettini is impossibly handsome enough to make big moves on that front as well.

Berrettini will work with Edouardo Artoldi, who remained with IMG after Novak Djokovic cut him loose last year after more than 13 years of service. Artoldi also brought Berrettini’s compatriot Lorenzo Musetti into the IMG family last February.

It took about a hot minute for Berrettini to be named as tennis ambassador for the PIF Fund – the Saudi investment fund that is leaving its footprints all over tennis in quick order.

(Not to be a tease – okay, we’re teasing – but we’re hearing through the grapevine that IMG is close to announcing a couple of additional high-profile signings in the coming weeks. Stay tuned).

From LJ Sports to the big guns

Berrettini had been with LJ Sports Group, the agency founded and co-owned by former top-five player Ivan Ljubicic, and managed by Richard Evans.

The agency was founded late in 2020, and Berrettini was its first high-profile client.

But the agency seemed to have fallen off the map early in 2023. From what we hear, there’s been some fallout and it’s a bit of a messy situation.

The Luxembourg-based agency also represented Croats Borna Coric and Donna Vekic and Russian Daria Kasatkina on the tennis side. All three moved to the “72 Sports” awhile ago – if you keep track of such things.

After leaving the LJ Sports Group, Evans had been working with Berrettini on his own. Until this announcement.

Got all that? The game of musical chairs that is the agency repping business in tennis always has its share of dramas.

First up in ’25 is Brisbane

Berrettini will be part of a pretty charismatic and intriguing cast as the 2025 season gets under way in just a few weeks.

He’ll in in Brisbane along with Novak Djokovic, Grigor Dimitrov, Holger Rune, Frances Tiafoe, Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Gaël Monfils and … the returning Nick Kyrgios.
