MORE TENNIS THAN YOU'LL EVER NEED

WTA Rankings Report – As of March 17, 2025

The two-week WTA 1000 means that there is no rankings update midway through.

So the moves on this particular Monday reflect two weeks of results, including a bunch of ITF tournaments.

Notably – two young Canadians are at career highs.

And so is 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva, who backs up her WTA 1000 title in Dubai with another at Indian Wells this weekend. No. 6 with a bullet.

For the complete, updated rankings for March 17, click here.

Mirra Andreeva (RUS): No. 11 ============> No. 6 (Andreeva gets to a new career high with her second consecutive WTA 1000 title. She’s soaring).

Donna Vekic (CRO): No. 22 ============> No. 19 (Vekic is back into the top 20 after making the fourth round at Indian Wells).

Elina Avanesyan (ARM): No. 39 ============> No. 36 (Another little jump and another career high for the Russian-turned-Armenian, who made the second round at Indian Wells but is in a tight section of the draw where there was a lot of movement the last two weeks).

Lulu Sun (NZL): No. 49 ============> No. 44 (Sun hadn’t done much of anything so far in 2025, after being named the WTA’s Newcomer of the year in 2024. She was 1-8 coming into the desert. But she made the third round in the desert and improves her lot. It looks like the coach who brought her there, Vladimir Platenik, is gone despite still being on her bio. Platenik is on a Sunshine Swing trial with Emma Raducanu).

Belinda Bencic (SUI): No. 58 ============> No. 45 (Bencic made the quarterfinals in Indian Wells, and is already back in the top 50 after just five WTA events in 2025, after starting her comeback after maternity leave in some smaller events last fall. She was at No. 487 to start the year).

Sonay Kartal (GBR): No. 83 ============> No. 63 (Mostly known as that “other little girl” in the video from Emma Raducanu’s childhood, she has reached another career high after qualifying and making the fourth round at Indian Wells. She’s actually only 14 points behind Raducanu in the rankings now, and is the No. 3 Brit).

Kimberly Birrell (AUS): No. 76 ============> No. 68 (Birrell, at 26, is having a great year, and is at another career high after qualifying and winning a round at Indian Wells).

Iva Jovic (USA): No. 157 ============> No. 145 (Just turned 17 in December, Jovic was 44-16 in the pro ranks coming into Indian Wells, where she had a main-draw wild card. She made the final of an ITF in Texas that never got finished because of freezing cold temps, and then went to Arcadia, Calif. for another deep run in an ITF. A year ago, when she got three games from Taylor Townsend after a wild card into the Indian Wells qualiying, she was ranked No. 659).

Victoria Mboko (CAN): No. 188 ============> No. 162 (The 18-year-old Canadian has had a ride, dropping off the radar for awhile, moving to Europe to train at the Henin Academy for year, and is now back in Canada. Her points from winning a higher-level ITF in Portugal two weeks ago come on, pushing her to another career high. She got a main-draw wild card into the Miami Open, which is a big occasion for her. And she also was named to the BJK Cup team headed to Japan next month).

(In juniors at the 2022 Australian Open).

Kayla Cross (CAN): No. 250 ============> No. 230 (Cross, who also was named to the BJK Cup team, reaches another career high after winning an ITF in Arcadia, Calif. two week ago).

Caty McNally (USA): No. 491 ============> No. 414 (McNally, still only 23, is playing on a protected ranking after a long absence and is slowly making her way back up the rankings. She wins a round in Indian Wells and gains 77 spots. Her career high of No. 54 came in May, 2023 – before the injuries).

Mirra Andreeva (RUS) (No. 6)
Amanda Anisimova (USA) (No. 17)
Elina Avanesyan (ARM) (No. 36)
Sonay Kartan (GBR) (No. 63)
Kimberly Birrell (AUS) (No. 68)
Maya Joint (AUS) (No. 80)
Anca Todoni (ROU) (No. 100)
Iva Jovic (USA) (No. 145)
Victoria Mboko (CAN) (No. 162)
Kayla Cross (CAN) (No. 230)
Emerson Jones (AUS) (No. 252)

Emma Navarro (USA): No. 8 ============> No. 10 (Navarro is still in the top 10 after her third-round exit in the desert. But not by much).

Yulia Putintseva (KAZ): No. 20 ============> No. 24 (Putintseva was surprised in the second round by Katerina Siniakova at Indian Wells, and drops her points from a fourth-round a year ago to drop out of the top 20 – after finally making it at age 30. She has quarterfinal points to defend in Miami, too).

Marta Kostyuk (UKR): No. 24 ============> No. 29 (Kostyuk reached her peak of No. 16 last June. But despite making the fourth round at Indian Wells this year, drops points from her semifinal a year ago. She didn’t play Miami in 2024, though, so there’s an opportunity to make a move),

Maria Sakkari (GRE): No. 29 ============> No. 51 (As much as Sakkari has struggled in the last year or so, her ranking hadn’t taken a major blow – until now. She was a finalist last year at Indian Wells and ranked No. 9, but lost to Gauff in the third round this year. And that said, even getting to the third round was a pretty good result for her on recent form. But she’s out of the top 50 for the first time in exactly four years after being a top-10 fixture much of that time).

Sakkari made the Indian Wells final a year ago. But it has’t been going great since then.

Yuan Yue (CHN): No. 68 ============> No. 93 (It’s been a tough months for Yuan, who won Austin and made the quarters at Indian Wells a year ago after beating Zheng Qinwen and Daria Kasatkina. She was shocked in the first round in Austin, and also in the desert where she was beaten by Dayana Yastremska. She drops from No. 49 to No. 93 in the space of a few weeks).

Diane Parry (FRA): No. 90 ============> No. 109 (Parry hit a career high of No. 48 last October. But hasn’t played much in 2025 and drops her points from a round-of-16 result a year ago. And is out of the top 100. She has played just one match since losing in the first round of the Australian Open – and retired in that one. Those were her only two matches in 2025. But she’s due back as the No. 2 seed in a WTA 125 on clay this week).

Caroline Wozniacki (DEN): No. 86 ============> No. 118 (Wozniacki hasn’t said much about her future, but she drops her points from her surprise quarterfinal at Indian Wells last year and is out of the top 100. She hasn’t played since last summer’s US Open).

Océane Dodin (FRA): No. 198 ============> No. 240 (Dodin hasn’t played this year after going through to mid-December in 2024, hence the drop out of the top 200. She got into Miami last year as a lucky loser and won a round, so she’ll have another points drop in two weeks).
