He played No. 17 seed Brandon Holt, a solid American who is having a great season so far, and happens to be the son of the legendary Tracy Austin. And went down 7-5 in the third set.

He didn’t get a lucky loser spot, as he did at Indian Wells. At least not initially; the one spot available so far went to No. 1 Q seed Carabelli.

Also in the final round, 17-year-old wild card Darwin Blanch.

And 18-year-old wild card Rei Sakamoto. Who was able to get through.
