Eight round-of-16 matches on tap in Miami, as the field got winnowed down in a hurry, sort of.

The top four seeds are – were – still alive in Miami for the first time in nine years. And the defending champion, Danielle Collins, got the world No. 1.

For Naomi Osaka, getting No. 6 seed Jasmine Paolini was a pretty good outcome, as Paolini isn’t the same player in 2025 as she was in 2024 – at least not so far.

Osaka had room to make a move she’s been looking to make for awhile. She just couldn’t do it.
