ROLAND GARROS – Nine days, five matches – and five wins for 18-year-old Canadian Victoria Mboko.
She’s now (unofficially) into the top 100 for the first time.
And she’s in the third round of the main draw at Roland Garros, with a big-time match against No. 8 seed Zheng Qinwen on Friday.
Here’s what it looked like.
And here’s our piece for the Canadian Press.
(Click on the pic below, or right here).

And here’s a French version, if that’s your jam, from La Presse.

I wondered the same thing. I was saying Muh-boko, but the one announcer says Em-boko.
You were wrong. Not sure the commentators have it QUITE right.
It’s probably more like “mmm-boko”. With very little emphasis on the “mmm”.
Thanks, Steph
How do you pronounce Mboko? I thought it was Mboko, but I have heard a few announcers pronounce it Emboko. Tks.
It’s basically impossible to pronounce an “M” and a “B” together, so I’m not sure you you’re actually pulling that off.
