It’s a lot of tennis the week after a three-week slog though Canada and Cincinnati.

But having a 500 event before a major, which has been the recent trend on the WTA Tour, is tough because the women are figuring out what the men figured out a long time ago – playing the week before is a tricky proposition.

But Leylah Fernandez is in Monterrey, a tournament she has won when it was a 250 event held during the winter. And hoping to make another pre US Open move. She got through her first one.
