FLUSHING MEADOWS, New York – Victoria Mboko will make her US Open debut as one of the 32 seeds.
But that doesn’t mean she got any kind of break in the draw.
Mboko, seeded No. 22, gets Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova in the first round. Although her section opens up quite nicely after that. Her potential third-round opponent would be No. 10 seed Emma Navarro, who isn’t especially in form and, having forsaken the “mixed singles” tournament for more singles matches in Monterrey, went out in her opener.
As for Leylah Fernandez, back into the top 32 as the No. 31 seed, she gets a qualifier in the first round. Her potential third-round opponent would be defending champion Aryna Sabalenka.
