FLUSHING MEADOWS, New York – Two Canadians made it to the third round on the men’s side.
And both had big asks on Saturday, to try to get to the second week.
Denis Shapovalov – who loves the showtime – got Arthur Ashe Stadium during the day, to face No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner. And it looked good for awhile. Just not long enough.
And Félix Auger-Aliassime got a slightly less tough, but still challenging, opponent in No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev. He was vintage, Zverev less so. And it was an impressive performance for the Canadian.
As for the players who went 4 1/2 hours, or close to it, to get through their second round, the bodies said no más.
