Quarterfinals on tap in both singles and doubles, as Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime pursues his quest to make the year-end finals in Turin.
He was up against the man of the moment, though, in wild card and Shanghai champion Valentin Vacherot. And he already had three-setters behind him in each of his first three matches. So it’s much to his credit for dispatching him with the loss of just four games.
Auger-Aliassime would in all likelihood at least have to make the final in Paris. And the draw gods have given him the draw: a qualifier, two unseeded players and now the wild card Vacherot, when No. 1 seed Alcaraz had been in his way in that quarterfinal slot.
(The Canadian is entered in the tournament in Metz next week. If he has any gas left and if he needs some points. He has a first-round bye and then would play a qualifier to ge to the quarterfinals. Medvedev and Bublik also in the draw, so far).
(Paris is 5 hours ahead of EDT)
