A first appearance by Novak Djokovic in Athens on Wednesday, only his second tournament since his semifinal effort at the US Open.
He was upset in the Shanghai semifinals by the cousin of the moment – Valentin Vacherot.
Djokovic has not yet confirmed he WILL play the year-end finals in Turin. This tournament, which he has a personal financial interest in and which his brother Djordje runs, would a good warmup if he does.
He faced Alejandro Tabilo, the Chilean-Canadian who in a small sample size, has his number.
Tabilo beat Djokovic in two short sets twice – in the third round of Rome in 2024, and the second round of Monte Carlo this year. That Rome win, a shocker, took just 67 minutes.
This time, even if Djokovic looked to be labouring physically – again – he turned on the afterburners after a tight first set and advances.
(Metz is 6 hours ahead of EST; Athens is 7 hours ahead)
