Friday Flashback: Genie Bouchard, 2011

As Genie Bouchard ponders her next move late in this 2017 season, there’s a dearth of live action for her many fans.

So here’s a flashback – all the way back to the first round of the 2011 Australian Open junior girls’ event.

Bouchard, just 16 at the time, was playing in her third Oz Open juniors. She dismissed Mana Ayukawa of Japan 6-1, 6-0 and lost to doubles partner Monica Puig in the semis.

A lot has changed: note the adidas kit (a pretty good one back then) and the Wilson racket. Now, it’s Nike and Babolat.
