Sharapova enmeshed in Indian fraud

Maria Sharapova lent her name and famous face to a proposed real-estate development in Gurgaon, India.

She’s prominently featured in the promotion. “Inspired by Maria’s dexterity and sophistication (and keeping in mind her homeland, of course). The Russian Ballet Academy is to be located in the amphitheatre,” is just one sentence.

The problem, according to the Times of India, is that the company allegedly took significant deposits from prospective buyers. But the project was abandoned last year.

It’s currently in court. A request for comment from Sharapova’s reps hasn’t been answered, thus far.
