Perhaps a fourth consecutive week of tennis after five years away was one week too many.
But Canadian Rebecca Marino’s winning streak on the ITF comeback trail in Turkey ended Friday.
The 27-year-old was defeated 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of this week’s clay-court event by 21-year-old Nina Potocnik of Slovenia.
Marino had won 20 consecutive singles matches (including one walkover) as she won three ITF $15,000 titles in a triumphant return.
It takes so many wins at that level to make a dent.. Marino’s ranking still will be outside the top 600 after all that success.
