UTR gets a boost from Oracle

UTR, or Universal Tennis Rating, is a ranking method gaining traction in the junior and college ranks as a better reflection of a player’s level with its use of big data, quality of opponent and scores.

After announcing a new ownership group in January and a partnership with the Tennis Channel, the company now announces the backing of Oracle.

Oracle is the company founded by Indian Wells event owner Larry Ellison.

The UT rating will be used to determine player entry and seeding at several upcoming Oracle-sponsored collegiate events, including one at Indian Wells during the event.
