
Channel 7 has been home to the Aussie tennis summer for 40 years.
Next year, that era ends.
Rival Channel 9 outbid them by a significant sum – five years, $300 million AUD.
Channel 7’s deal was worth $35 million annually, per reports.
“Our objective going into this process was a growth plan for exposure across the key planks of both tennis and non-tennis content, and the Nine offer best met these requirements,” Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley said.
Translation: as with so much about the Australian Open in the Tiley era, it’s really about … more money.
