No official word yet on the extent of Aussie Thanasi Kokkinakis’s knee injury, after he tripped over an advertising box on court in Monte Carlo last week.
But tournament director Zeljko Franulovic said while they feel worse than anyone about it, it’s not their fault.
“There’s a distance of more than six meters from the baseline to the back of the court, which is widely within the rules of the ATP,” Franulovic said in a post-tournament press conference. “The cushions are only foam, they’re not rigid.
“We can’t have 20 meters on each side of the court.”
